Karen Read Retrial: Jurors Visit Crime Scene as Fourth Day of Testimony Ends

Tension builds as jurors examine key evidence in the death of Boston officer John O’Keefe

CANTON, MA — The retrial of Karen Read, the Massachusetts woman accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, concluded its fourth day of testimony on April 25, following a pivotal visit to the alleged crime scene.

Jurors were escorted to the Canton residence where O’Keefe was found dead in January 2022, allegedly struck by Read’s SUV during a snowstorm. They were instructed to observe the scene without bias, focusing on items like the flagpole, fire hydrant, and Read’s Lexus SUV.

Testimony: Alcohol Level and Forensic Validity Questioned

Back in court, Dr. Garrey Faller, a pathologist, testified that Read’s blood alcohol content measured 0.093% hours after O'Keefe’s death. However, the defense challenged the method used, citing differences between medical and forensic testing — and claimed Read's anemia could have skewed results.

Case Divides Public Opinion

Prosecutors allege Read acted in a drunken rage, while her defense argues she is being framed. The first trial ended in a mistrial in July 2024 after a hung jury. This high-profile case has since fueled true-crime podcasts, documentaries, and online speculation.
